A week into 2015 and I have discovered just what my New Year’s Resolution needs to be. That is to attend more local gigs, show up early for the support acts, and spread the word about the incredible home grown talent that deserves greater recognition.

Attending my first local gig of the year reminded me of the satisfaction you receive when supporting local venues and artists. There are opportunities waiting for you to find new acts you may love, so what are you waiting for?

Last night The Cambridge Hotel hosted a free entry event with Newcastle bands Velvet Lane and Sunset Heroes.

Sunset Heroes engaged the crowd with their impressive harmonies, evoking supple grooves to well loved covers and original tracks including “Earthquake”. Their blues rock sound shines through in their take of "Royals" by Lorde which proved to be a favourite for the audience. I also feel obliged to mention that they include the sax in songs which heightens the mood and persuades the punters to dance along to the suave sound that is Sunset Heroes.

Their debut single “Earthquake” is available from iTunes here.

Make sure to check out your local live music scene and support home grown talent!
